Description
Grim 10 – Dark Art Zine July 2018
Another 20 pages of dark art and text; of found bits-and-pieces and some dark humour to boot. When I started this I wanted emulate, to a degree, the indie bands of the 1970’s and 80’s. And like those photocopied flyers and promotional material I wanted to restrict myself to the use of low-tech methods. I do have had the luxury of computers, though, to facilitate the reproduction of my own artwork but apart from that I’ve used my hands, some scissors, glue, scalpel, tape and a photocopier, oh and needle and thread. Working with bits of paper and found materials has in many ways been a liberation; allowing mistakes, imperfections and printing errors to make their mark on the final copy. It is these ‘happy accidents’ which, in my world, are most exciting and energising; without which it would all be a bit, ‘flat’ and lifeless.
Excerpt from page 12 of this edition by Declan Bannon:
‘A once empty canvas hangs splattered, blood red stains of different hues bleed through the stretched out skin. The ageing figure stares from a black abyss.
